Bug is Broken

As most of you know, Sofie is a pretty active and rambuctious little girl. The most athletic of our three children, Sofie loves to run, jump, and climb anything she can. In fact, most days she is just in a constant state of motion until she collapses into sleep. Last Friday, our little Honeybug met her match on the Reck's trampoline. She was jumping with some friends when an older child accidentally double jumped her. Sofie came down with a twist and broke her tibia. She has a bright red cast that goes all the way to the top of her thigh and is not allowed to put any weight on it whatsoever for the next 6-8 weeks. Daddy went out and got Sofie a red blanket to snuggle with and her friends have been coming over to sign her cast and bring her goodies to keep her quiet. Needless to say, life has come to a screeching halt for us all. The good news is not even a broken leg can keep Sofie's spirits down for long.

Beavers Bend 2010

We just returned from our annual spring break retreat with our life group from church. Once again, getting away, even for a weekend, proved to be good medicine for our family. The kids especially loved the hot tub while the adults mostly took time to relax in "God's country". Can't wait to go back again...

Lily's Birthday...She is 8!

Our sweet Lily is eight years old! She is growing up so fast, and continues us to dazzle us with her charm and whit. Lily is everything "girlie" in a tiny little package. Her favorite color is pink, she loves music and dancing, and she LOVES to bake. In fact, her dream is to grow up and open her own bake shop called Lily's Cakes. So, she was thrilled to get her very own Easy Bake Oven for her birthday this year. Our home is a brighter place because of our little princess. Happy Birthday Lulu...we love you to the moon and back!

Winter Dance-Glen Oaks Elementary 2010

"Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow."--Jeremiah 31:13

The girls were so excited to attend the Winter Dance at Glen Oaks Elementary with their escort and prince charming, Daddy! Lily and Sofie each picked out a new outfit especially for this grand occassion. Our little "fashionista" Lily chose an elegant pink, white, and green dress with sparkles and pleats finished off with a jeweled headband and white patent leather heals. Sofie, going for function rather than fashion, chose green corduroys with a pink, green, and white plaid button down shirt with a matching headband and Mary Jane tennis shoes to match. Both of them looked absolutely precious. Sofie told me she felt "beautimous!"

We spent the early hours of the evening getting ready for the dance the way all princesses do. A luxurious bubble bath with a "bath bomb" from Lush, a bath store we recently discovered. We painted nails...pink for Lily and red for Honeybug. Of course, we finished up with a bit of lipgloss since it was a special evening. Daddy even surprised the girls with a pink Gerber daisy corsage. What a gentleman!

Marty and the girls had a great night "dancing", although Marty says that Sofie mostly ran around with her buddies while Lily tore up the dance floor with her BFF, Brylee. Everybody was home by 10, and the girls fell asleep dreaming of their enchanted evening. And Daddy was truly captivated by his charming "dates". What fun!

Upward Basketball 2010

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men"---Colossians 3:23

Honeybug and Coach Daddy ready for the game!

Marty has been coaching Sofie's Upward Basketball team this year. A church instructional league, Upward is a way to teach Sofie the skills for basketball and play against her peers in a low stress but competitive environment while drawing nearer to Christ. Sofie LOVES basketball and she is a little firecracker on the court. And though she is the tiniest one out there, she is mighty in heart for the game. She zips up and down the court with boundless energy and a big smile. Her skills are developing quickly and we are having a great time watching her play with her other little friends from church. Marty says he has really enjoyed coaching this team, as they are an extremely sweet bunch of kiddos.

Winter Wonderland

"Though our sins were like Crimson, He will make you white as snow!"

Driving into our neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

We received 12 1/2 inches of snow in the Dallas Metro-plex on Thursday, February 10th. Snow began to around 3:00 a.m. and continued to fall through the night into Friday morning. It was truly magical as the heavy flakes fell softly to the ground blanketing the trees, bushes, and ground in a thick covering of snow. School was cancelled on Friday, even though the roads were pretty much ice-free. I think secretly the school administrators just wanted a day to play in the snow before it melts away.

Some VERY unhappy Pansies.

The field behind Dowell Middle school right beside our house.

Winter Wonderland in McKinney.

The kids have had so much fun! Before school on Thursday morning, Lily, Sofie, and I made a snowman in the backyard while the girls were still in their pajamas. After school, Jack barreled through the door with his two best buddies, Kyle and Reid. Together, they were taking on some other kids in a snow ball war in the field behind their school. Jack even recruited Lily and Sofie to help them out.

On their "snow day" the kids spent a great deal of time going in and out of the cold. When they were all done playing, they took a hot bath and drank some hot cocoa. That night, we watched the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It was so cool to have snow for the winter games!!!

The kids and I made a snow fort together!

Our snowman named February.

Today, the snow is starting to melt away slowly, but the kids and I were able to go out this morning and build a snowman and a snow fort. We were talking as we were playing that God sent us snow for Christmas Eve and Valentine's Day...Oh, How He Loves Us!
