As most of you know, Sofie was born with a herniated umbilical cord. We have been waiting for her body to heal itself until now, as often they will close without medical assistance. However, our pediatrician and surgeon agreed that if it hadn't repaired itself by now, she was going to need surgery. We put it off as long as we could, despite her objections to her belly button. Last summer, she had told my mom that she wanted a belly button like Lily's. :(
So, our little Honeybug finally had her surgery to repair her hernia right before Easter. I admit I was a bit nervous as the surgeon wheeled her away for the procedure. Sitting alone in my own private waiting room, the clock seemed to stand still as I distracted myself with brain candy like People magazine. Finally, the surgeon came in the door and assured me she was doing great and was waking up. I immediately returned to her side as I watched her beautiful brown eyes slowly open and begin to focus on mine. I took her home and carried her in the door. Her brother and sister met her with smiles and insisted they help take care of her. Lily even told me she wasn't taking a nap because she had to help take care of her Sofie. :) We spent the rest of the day and the next snuggling together and watching movies. Sofie's favorite is Nanny McPhie. Saturday evening, Sofie asked to go for a walk in her wagon and we knew she was on the mend.
I am thrilled to say that she has completely healed and the last of her bandages fell off today. And in their place is a perfect new belly button...and it's an inny like Lily's just as Sofie wanted. :)

Even though her
"cummy hurt" Sofie still managed to give us that big smile. :)
